Stan Getz / Charlie Byrd – Jazz Samba

When I went to visit my parents in Kelowna a few days ago I took the opportunity to check out the local record stores. Milkcrate was the new shop and didn’t have much selection beyond rock (new and old) but I don’t blame them, they’re new. I’ll be sure to check it out next time I’m out there.

The other was Underground and quickly found out they were closed on Mondays. Once I did get a chance to check it out, I quickly realized that they had a sizeable jazz collection, or at least bigger than I was expecting. I picked found a couple of discs on my wishlist and couldn’t pass them up. One of which was Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd’s Jazz Samba.

Bossa Nova is that loungy music that was popular in North America during the 60’s. It’s got the fancy 60’s feel to it that makes me really chill and content. It’s a mellow swing.

Anyways, the album is really great to listen to all the way through. While it’s first track “Desafinado” is the main track from the album but I also enjoy Stan’s guitar work on “Samba de Uma Nota So.” That’s not to say that the other ones aren’t good, those two are just my favourite.

I’ll have to apologize, this is my first album review so I don’t really know what else to say other than I really enjoyed the album. I need to become more articulate.

Reddit’s Favourite Songs

Not too long ago someone on Reddit asked what people’s #1 favourite song was and they delivered a decent list. Someone was even nice enough to create a YouTube playlist of all the songs, be sure to check it out.
